Thundercats Stop Dragons’ Unbeaten Run, Redsharks Outlast Bulls, and JDF Take Points In NCC Round 9

Saturday, July 25, 2026 – Mona Bowl – St Catherine Thundercats opened Round 9 with a composed and energetic performance, boosted by the return of Ronaldeni Fraser, who recently completed a stint overseas with the Brooklyn Kings in the USA Rugby League (USARL) competition. Playing in the halves on his return, Fraser directed the attack and sparked the Thundercats to an upset 30–20 victory over the Liguanea Dragons.

The Thundercats built their early lead through a broad spread of scorers. Racheed Pencle crossed twice and added a goal, while Brandon Barrett, Tyreke Hutchinson, Azheim Gayle, and Romario Hull each added tries. Fraser himself contributed a try as part of his influential performance in the halves.

The Dragons mounted a determined second‑half response, with Shemar Nugent, Akeem Kitson, Kamarine Williams—who scored twice—and Tyrell Thomas all finding the try line. Their surge narrowed the margin but could not overturn the deficit created in the opening stages.

Thundercats captain Tah-Jay Lynch said the fast start set the tone, noting; “The early execution gave us control, and even when the Dragons lifted their intensity, we stayed composed. This win gives us a mathematical shot of finishing second in the tables so it was crucial to come out on top.” 

Meanwhile, Dragons captain Michael Pearson highlighted the improved second‑half effort, stating; “Our response after halftime was positive, but we cannot afford slow starts at this level. It’s disappointing to lose our first match but we will look to forward to the final group stage game to make the corrections”

Red Sharks overpower Bulls 44–20

Duhaney Park Red Sharks delivered a composed and efficient display to defeat the Washington Boulevard Bulls 44–20 and . The Red Sharks’ attack was well‑balanced, with Alex Williamson scoring the opener, Adrian Thomas adding two tries and four goals, and Shaqueil Pollack producing three tries from centre. Weston Williams, Akeem Murray, and Amouri Abendigo also crossed the line, giving the Red Sharks seven different scorers in total.

The Bulls showed intent throughout the contest, with Timarri Johnson scoring once and Shaquille Drummond and Jahzeel Francis each adding two tries. Their periods of momentum were notable, but the Red Sharks maintained control across the full match, with the win, they are third on the table on eleven points, while the Bulls remain bottom of the pile with one point.

Red Sharks Head Coach Jason Gooden said the squad responded well after the loss in previous round, explaining;  “We did well to refocus, we were motivated, especially those players given the chance to step into the starting team and show what they can do.  Adrian Thomas handled the captaincy with maturity, despite being handed the role for the first time and his leadership proved decisive. The Bulls played with intent and exposed a few weak areas, full credit to them."

Bulls Head Coach Oshane Edie said his team created opportunities but lacked sustained pressure, noting; “The effort was there, but we need attacking consistency and defensive focus across full sets to stay competitive in matches like this. Nevertheless, I am happy putting twenty points on the board against a quality team”

JDF Warriors awarded points over Hyenas

The scheduled Round 4 fixture between JDF Warriors and West Kingston Hyenas did not take place due to a Hyenas forfeiture.
