Men's Game: Reds 32 Blues 10

Reds continued their stranglehold on the POR series with a convincing 32-10 win over Blues at the UWI Mona Bowl today. Blues got off to a quick when second Take Creary crashed over from a lively Omar Jones offload in the first 5 mins, Javian Bryan kicking the conversion.

Reds hit back soon after through prop Jason Gooden, Adrain Brown converting and then flyer Jenson Morris stunned the Blues when he returned the kick 70 metres and scored in the right corner. Full back Andrew Simpson was on the sheet for Reds, dotting down in the left corner to build a 14-6 lead at the break.

In the second half Blues Omar Jones opened the account first, the prop crashing over in the left corner to leave the Blues trailing 10-14. Reds centre Oshane Eddie was quick with a response, dancing through the Blues middle defence and dotting down under the goal. Adrian Hall converted, opening a 20-10 lead for the Reds.

Marvin Thompson then threw a lovely cut-pass to Kenneth Walker on right edge, Walker gleefully went untouched for the score, Hall again converted the kick to give the Reds a firm 26-10 advantage.

From a scrum play, the Reds unleashed another excellent try when Fabion Turner released Walker for his second, the winger having to do some work to outpace both Miguel Facey and Ronaldeni Fraser, Hall with his third conversion pushing the Reds to 32-10 with under 10 minutes remaining. The score remained the same, but Blues Ryan Grant was sin binned in the last few minutes, the frustration of the Blues palpable and boiling over.

Marvin Thompson was named man of the match and Kille Nembhard player of the series.

The victory is the 6th straight series win for the Reds, and once more, the Blues are left wondering what could have been. There is always 2023 to try again.
