KINGSTON, Jamaica — June 13, 2026 — The Liguanea Dragons maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026 Rugby League Jamaica National Club Championship (NCC) with a narrow 20-18 victory over the Duhaney Park Red Sharks as Round Three action unfolded at the Mona Bowl on Saturday.

The Dragons now lead the competition on six points from three wins. The JDF Warriors and West Kingston Hyenas are tied on four points with two wins and one loss each, while the Red Sharks and defending champions St. Catherine Thundercats sit on two points from one win and two defeats. The Washington Boulevard Bulls remain without a point after three matches.

Dragons End Red Sharks Drought with Hard-Fought Victory- Video

The marquee matchup of the day saw the Liguanea Dragons edge the Duhaney Park Red Sharks 20-18 in a fiercely contested encounter. The victory marked the Dragons second ever win over the Red Sharks, the first being in their 2014 win the semifinals.

The Dragons secured the win through tries from Kamarine Williams, Shevaune Campbell and Hakeem Richards, while Adrian Hall contributed four successful conversions.

Duhaney Park remained in contention throughout, with Adrian Thomas, Kyjah Davis, Chevaughn Bailey and impact substitute Andre McFarlane all crossing the line. Thomas also added a conversion.

Two major stories coming from the game is that Dragons captain and halfback, Michael Pearson, will miss at least two weeks after picking up an injury. For Duhaney Park, prop Jade Harrison is facing 5 weeks on the sidelines after collecting a red card for striking.

Despite the win, Dragons captain Pearson admitted there is still room for improvement.

“It was a tough game. We had to defend for long periods because our discipline was poor. Our attack was clunky at times as well, so there are a few things for our playmakers to work on. The high point was our forwards; they really set the platform for the win,”

Meanwhile, Duhaney Park coach Jason Gooden said his team’s execution at key moments proved costly.

“We created a lot of chances but could not execute consistently at critical moments. However, we are not panicking. We are getting into good positions and if we stick to our methods and keep growing as a team, the execution will come,”

Hyenas Upset Defending Champions

The West Kingston Hyenas continued their strong start to the season with a determined 18-16 victory over defending champions St. Catherine Thundercats.

Halfback Andrew Hylton produced a match-winning display, scoring two tries and kicking two goals to finish with 12 points. Phillip Rowe and Eric Groves also crossed for the Hyenas.

For the Thundercats, Joseph Daley scored two tries, while Mathew Craig added another. Winger Shade Whyte converted two goals.

Hyenas head coach Robert Hawes credited his team's defensive effort for the result.

"Our team defence won us this game, hands down," Hawes said. "We were not consistent with the ball and made far too many errors. Those turnovers kept us under pressure from the Thundercats, but I'm pleased with the win and the weekly improvements I am seeing from the team."

Thundercats captain Tah-Jay Lynch admitted his side fell short in discipline and decision-making.

“We are a bit disappointed in our performance and our decision-making. Unfortunately, we were a bit overconfident and complacent and as a unit, we paid the price,”

The youthful Bulls battled throughout but were unable to contain the Warriors' attacking execution.

Warriors captain and manager Jerome Laird said the team remained focused despite the one-sided scoreline.

“Our plan was to fine-tune our set plays and execute. Although the Bulls are a young team, we didn’t take them lightly. We focused on execution and consistency in all departments, and that paid off for us. We’re happy to come away with the two points,”

Bulls head coach Oshane Edie said the match offered valuable lessons for his rebuilding squad.

“It was a good game and we saw areas we can keep working on. It’s a rebuilding season for us, but we have plenty of talent and we are confident this team will come around,” Edie said.
