Brampton, Ontario, Canada — Jamaica’s Under-19 Rugby League team made history with a memorable 30–14 victory over Canada on Saturday, October 10, becoming the first Jamaican rugby league team to win a game on Canadian soil.

The historic triumph marked a significant milestone for Jamaican rugby league, as the young Reggae Warriors delivered an impressive performance to overcome their Canadian counterparts in the curtain-raiser to the senior international fixture.

Jamaica crossed for five tries, with hooker Tavel Boodie scoring twice in an outstanding attacking display. However, the standout moment came just after half-time when winger CJ Brown produced a spectacular 90-metre try, showcasing the speed and attacking threat of the Jamaican side.

The young Reggae Warriors faced a determined Canadian team in the opening half, but Jamaica gradually asserted its dominance in the forwards, creating opportunities to move the ball wide and capitalise on its attacking strengths.

Jamaica Rugby League Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith praised the team’s resilience and tactical execution in securing the landmark victory.

“It was a great game. We had some challenges in the first half, Canada really gave us a fight, but we re-established some dominance up front, which enabled us to move the ball wide and score some nice tries,” Monteith said.

Canada Under-19 head coach Steven Lenahan also acknowledged Jamaica’s performance, congratulating the young Reggae Warriors on their historic achievement.

“Congratulations to Jamaica. They were a better team on the day, even though our boys put in a really solid effort,” Lenahan said.

The 30–14 victory represents a proud moment for Jamaica Rugby League and a significant achievement for the country’s emerging talent. By securing the first-ever victory by a Jamaican rugby league team in Canada, the Under-19 Reggae Warriors have created a historic milestone and demonstrated the continued development and potential of the sport in Jamaica.
