Duhaney Park Firestorm are Rugby League Jamaica (RLJ) National Division 2 Champions after defeating St Catherine Thundercats 36-28 in an entertaining and high-scoring encounter at Mona Bowl on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The club has now won seven times in eight appearances in the Grand Finals.
The Firestorm crossed for seven tries and converted four to secure the eight-point victory, while the Thundercats responded with five tries and four successful conversions in a spirited performance. The winners built and maintained an earlier lead, using their experienced forwards to control the middle.
Duhaney Park’s attack was led by Adrian Thomas and Oniel Williams, who both scored two tries each. Chevaughn Bailey, Shaqueil Pollack, and Alex Williamson also added tries, while Thomas successfully kicked four conversions.
For St Catherine, Kevin Thomas scored a brace of tries, with Ronaldeni Fraser, Racheed Pencle, and Shevaughn Smith also getting over the line. Brandon Gordon kicked three conversions, while Ahmeiqkie Miller added one.
Jason Gooden, Head Coach of Firestorm expressed satisfaction with his team's performance and attitude throughout the campaign.
"The leadership of our senior players at training was essential. They set the standards every day, showing the junior players exactly what it means to wear this jersey. I want to give a massive thank you to our juniors who bought into our system and gave their absolute best. To every player who lent us their strength in the matches leading up to the final—this championship was won on the backs of your collective efforts. I am truly grateful."
Commenting on the growth of the junior players he continued,
"I am incredibly proud of these juniors. They have shown that they have what it takes to matriculate to the senior level of Rugby League. My hope is that their commitment continues as we move into the NCC season. With the continued guidance of our senior players, the future of this club is in very capable hands."
In the 3rd place game, outgoing champions Mona Pelicans defeated Cedar Grove Cyclones 26-8.
