The Campion College community are still are celebrating their second ever title in the RLJ / Flashship Couriers National U16 Championship. Campion bested a field of 8 schools and edged The Cedar Grove Academy 26-22 in a thrilling final played on April 29, 2025, delivering one of the most competitive and entertaining schoolboy rugby league contests of the season.
At the start of the season in February, not many would have chosen the boys from Hope Road as favourites. However, the school emerged from a very competitive field to etch their name on the coveted trophy, adding to thr U19 title they already secured for the season. The full list of participating schools in the 2025-2026 Championship were: Campion College, The Cedar Grove Academy, Calabar High, St Georges College, Jose Marti High, Spanish Town High, Greater Portmore High, Waterford High and St. Catherine High.
The championship encounter remained tightly contested from start to finish with Campion scoring five tries (including the winning one on the final minute of play) and converting three goals to secure victory. TCGA had four tries and three successful goals of their own.
Campion College’s try scorers were Tyler Samuels, Joshua Martin, Caleb Taylor with two tries, and Damir Fairclough, also added three successful conversions. TCGA’s points came through tries from Jayden Cunningham, Travis Berth, and Jahvon Miller, who scored twice and successfully converted all three goals for his team.

Winning coach Andrew Dixon said, “We are extremely happy to claim our second title. We were up against a very good Cedar Team, who on form, were the best team in the competition to that point. However, we stuck to game plan to neutralize their strong runners, kept our patience, and ground out a good win. Kudos to our boys on their effort.”
RLJ Director of Rugby praised both finalists for their sportsmanship, commitment, and high standard of play throughout the competition, while also recognizing the valuable contribution of Flashship Couriers in supporting the growth of youth rugby league across the island.
Monteith remarked, “This was one of our most successful Championship seasons yet. All 8 schools demonstrated commitment and discipline throughout. Campion had an impressive journey to the finals, displaying true determination to secure their victory. Cedar Grove displayed great spirit, but it just wasn’t their day. We cannot overstate the importance of the competition’s title sponsor, Flashship Couriers; their continued support is crucial for the development of youth sports in Jamaica.”
In the 3rd place playoff, Calabar High defeated St. Georges College 18-0.
